Interim IT management
april 2010
It's been a long stretch; my last steps as IT manager at a middle sized company finally came to an end.
Results:
- Discontinued contracts with one-man-shops working on mission-critical applications
(so yes; these nightmare scenarios do happen in the real world) - The company is focussed again on using Project Management templates (based on a mix of RUP, Agile, and Plain Common Sense)
- Supported the actual business owner (Marketing team) in implementing a new Intranet (just plain old SharePoint) which they can maintain themselves.
- Initiated a full-featured Unified Communications solution.
- I worked with Goldratt consultants and began to appreciate this approach to projectmanagement;
but we all agreed this specific company was not ready for Goldratt yet as it requires highly professional teammembers and organisational structure.
This project was not only about IT.
Just because my methods are sometimes a bit unconventional I am sure this company is more focussed than ever on the right (IT) projects and how to manage them from now on.
My line of the year: "And what if we hire two typists for the next 5 years instead of a team of programmers?"
